The superb 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a dark plum/purple color along with sumptuous notes of melted licorice, blackberries, cassis, cherries, prunes, and raisins. Layered, with creme de cassis liqueur-like flavors, and moderate tannin lurking beneath the surface, this is a sexy, lush, fragrant 2000. Low acidity and sweet tannin suggest it can be enjoyed now and over the next 12-15 years. Sophie and Catherine must feel some responsibility for carrying on the heritage of the Armenier family, which has been making Chateauneuf du Pape for only 700 years! Anticipated maturity: 2003-2018
Full deep red. Knockout wild aromas of berry liqueur, minerals, underbrush and smoked meat, all lifted by an exotic suggestion of orange peel. Dense and lush but also penetrating and powerful, with complicating notes of minerals and game. Tannins are sweet and fine. This is superb for the vintage.
