Deep and complex, Dugat-Py’s 2005 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark wild berries, cinnamon, rose petals, violets, dark chocolate and grilled venison. Full-bodied, rich and layered, it’s concentrated and complete, framed by exquisitely powdery structuring tannins. While this is still a little on the young side it’s not at all austere and is evolving very gracefully.
Anticipated maturity: 2025-2060
(just three barrels made, from 65-year-old vines) Deep ruby-red. Knockout nose offers blackberry, violet, minerals and smoked meat; combines an almost liqueur-like ripeness with high notes of eucalyptus and menthol. Extremely suave and silky in the mouth, with a fine-grained texture and terrific energy and harmony. At once thick and bright, with powerful extract and superb structure. Perhaps most impressive today on the back half, which features building, palate-staining flavor and a real aromatic whiplash on the end. Tannins are thoroughly buffered by the wine’s fruit.
