This is more muted on the nose compared to the Clos Saint Jacques from Rousseau, but a few swirls coaxes some lovely blueberry and black cherry aromas, with a roasted herb aroma developing. The palate is quite tannic, animally and irony, perhaps verging on aggressive in the mid- and back-palate with a touch of bitterness on the finish. But I have faith in this wine: it just needs another 5- to 6-years to show its best. Drink 2012-2020. Tasted February 2008.
Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020
Bright, dark red-ruby. Very ripe but sappy aromas of plum, black cherry, licorice and minerals. Fat and ripe but almost magically vibrant, with terrific energy and inner-mouth perfume to the black cherry and mineral flavors. This really expands toward the back end, finishing tactile and chewy, with very suave tannins and outstanding aromatic persistence. Great definition of fruit here, as well as the structure for long aging.
