Coming all from 120-year-old Grenache vines planted all in the sandy soils of the La Crau lieu-dit, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cornelia Constanza is about as textbook an example of old vine Grenache as you’ll find. Loaded with notions of kirsch, sandy, loamy soil nuances, black licorice and a garrigue-laced bouquet, this medium to full-bodied, uber-sexy, textured 2006 has sweet tannin and a great finish. Like the Cuvee Barberini, drink it anytime over the coming 4-6 years.
Anticipated maturity: 2016-2022
Bright red. Sharply focused red berry and cherry aromas are complicated by anise, garrigue and smoky minerals. Pliant red fruit flavors are supported by zesty minerals, gaining flesh and sweetness with air. Very nicely balanced wine with a compelling blend of depth and vivacity that bodes well for cellaring.
