Tasting Notes

Vinous 93+

(includes 2% cabernet franc): Bright red-ruby. Nobler on the nose than the Altagracia, displaying scents of currant, licorice and tobacco lifted by a sexy floral topnote. Broad and supple in the mouth, but with lovely definition and power to the flavors of plum, currant, brown spices and brown sugar. At once suave and penetrating, and sweeter and longer than the Altagracia. Can’t quite match the young 2012 for thickness of texture but I love the more restrained style of this 2011. The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard is simply beautiful. It is easily one of the most complete and compelling wines of the vintage. Rich, flashy and open, especially within the context of the vintage, the 2011 impresses for its depth and polish. Layers of blue and black fruit, savory herbs, mint and licorice come together in this complete Cabernet. A model of total class and elegance, the 2011 is simply remarkable for the year. This is one of the few wines of the vintage with real potential not just for the near-term, but also for the future. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2026. (Not yet released) This is a gorgeous set of wines from Bart and Daphne Araujo, and their team headed by winemaker Nigel Kinsman and consulting winemaker Francoise Peschon. In particular, the 2010s are knockouts. I won’t be surprised if one day 2010 is considered one of the great all-time vintages at this historic property.
