(this was in a 50/50 blend of barrel and tank until being blended the week before my visit): Slightly hazy medium yellow. Totally different from the preceding wines, showing pronounced notes of lime, crushed rock and anise. A step up in intensity and pitch too, showing energetic, sappy flavors of white peach, salty stony minerality and white pepper. This very pure wine boasts refined tannins and terrific finishing energy.
“The 2016 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos reveals aromas of lemon oil, waxy citrus rind, nutmeg and subtle new oak. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, textural and chalky, with good depth and chewy extract, but without the completeness and dimension of a great vintage. It’s a Clos that will drink well with just a year or two of bottle age.”
Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029
